Day -7

One week until Orientation Day! Today I went on what will probably be my last training ride: the so-called Tiburon Loop in Marin County. It was my first trip over the Golden Gate Bridge since they closed the west (bicycle-only) sidewalk for repairs; it just reopened this past week.

After crossing the bridge, which celebrates its 75th anniversary tomorrow, I climbed up into the Marin Headlands and took its birthday portrait.

Today's ride was 50 miles and took my monthly mileage to 259 and my cumulative mileage to 1,047. Was it enough? We'll find out in a week!

Day -14

Two weeks to go! Opinions seem to differ as to when ALC riders should stop intensive training; I compromised by going on a fairly short ride today (6.5 miles with 600 feet of climbing). A big hill that had me totally stymied in January was no trouble at all.

Sneath Lane Trail

A quick pic from last Sunday. This is about 1,000 feet up, overlooking SFO and the San Andreas Fault. Nearby is the site where the Portolá expedition discovered San Francisco Bay.

Day -19

Three weeks to go!! This past weekend I managed to ride 95 miles (65 on Saturday and 30 on Sunday). This took my monthly total thus far to 202 miles -- not bad. But now my bike is in the shop for a few days, so I won't be able to ride until Friday at the earliest.

Day -22

My goal for this weekend is to ride at least 100 miles. Wish me luck! Also, too, welcome to my mobile blog, to which I'll be posting during ALC for those who aren't on Facebook or aren't my friends there.
